Energy Policy
5/22/2008:
Shell Oil: I can guarantee
to the American people because of the inaction of the United
States Congress ever increasing prices unless the demand comes
down and the five dollars will look like a very low price in
the years to come if we are prohibited from finding new reserves
and new opportunities to increase supplies.
Rep. Maxine Waters: And,
guess what this liberal will be all about? This liberal will
be about socializing... uh, will be about, basically taking
over and the government running all of your companies.
AmericanPlatform.org believes
that this is both indicative of the liberal/progressive outlook
and a completely wrong solution to our energy problems.
Our current energy policies
have the effect of making us dependent on people who often hate
us. Many of them take the vast sums of money they make and use
it against us. Our current policies are making us less secure
and more dependent while simultaneously contributing to higher
prices.
This site is for drilling
for oil in any place we have rights to. Why? Because oil is
what works right now, what our systems are set up to use. Want
a cheaper, cleaner source of energy? Us too. And we strongly
advocate sensible alternatives. We also believe that if any
country in the world can come up with the Better Idea it is
the USA.
But until it is reasonable
to count on wind or solar or whatever, we'd better stop hamstringing
ourselves. If we had started drilling in ANWR in the nineties
we would have that source up and running now. It wouldn't help
but so much, but it would help. And every dollar we don't give
to the Middle East or Hugo Chavez is a good thing. Other countries
are signing long term leases in the gulf of Mexico, off California,
and elsewhere. We have shale we can use. We have nuclear know-how.
We have energy!
This site believes that
our government is failing us miserably in this crucial area.
We are in the process of crippling ourselves while other countries
are running full steam ahead. The environmentalists have played
a huge role in creating the current situation, yet it is "big
oil" that is being excoriated in Washington. Maybe we can
someday reach the utopian dreams of the environmentalists, and
we hope we can.
Until then, however, we
better wise up and make use of the resources we have available.
Every other country in the world is doing so.
