The Good America
This page
is dedicated to examples of what is good about America. The
media often play up the worst of our culture, our people, and
our government. Often they are not innacurate, unfortunately,
but the preponderance of bad news from the media distorts the
reality. Good deeds, kind gestures, altruism, heroism, chivalry,
charity, bravery and selflessness mostly occur without mention.
While these
acts are done without thought of self-aggrandizement or reward,
it lifts our spirits and reaffirms our belief in the goodness
of the American people to hear about them. This page will be
a tribute to those who get little media coverage but are the
backbone of our exceptional country. Stories will be posted
as they are brought to our attention.

Andre
Sobel River of Life Foundation
The
succinct mission statement: When compassion can’t wait
and single parent families are in despair, the Andre Sobel
River of Life Foundation helps with urgent expenses to
allow these caregivers to stay at their child’s bedside
during catastrophic illness. By caring for the single
caregiver we care for the child.
Valerie
Sobel, whose personal story is so sad and so inspiring,
saw a need and decided to help. Donations to this foundation
assist single parents who have terribly sick kids.

Wounded
Warrior Project
This
project assists severely injured service members in a
variety of ways. From their web site: "One night
while watching the evening news, a group of veterans and
brothers were moved by the difficult stories of the first
wounded service members returning home from Afghanistan
and Iraq. They realized then and there that something
needed to be done for these brave individuals beyond the
brass bands and ticker tape parades." A great group
doing great work.
